Mr. James Kerario Laurent is a Digital Safety consultant and a Communication expert with more than 5 years of professional work experience in the Tanzanian Civil Society Sector. He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and is currently pursuing his Master& Degree in Monitoring and Evaluation. James is also an active member of the Internet Society- Tanzania Chapter. He is passionate about his work as a Digital Safety trainer and enjoys meeting new people.
Over the years, he has trained more than 500 Youths, Women Human Rights Defenders, Journalists, Lawyers and NGOs within Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Burundi and Sudan. He has also been invited to speak at a number of Internet Freedom forums in the last 3 years;most notably in September 2018 at the Forum on Internet Freedom in Africa (#FIFAfrica18) that was hosted in Accra, Ghana by the Collaboration on International ICT Policy for East
and Southern Africa (CIPESA). Also, earlier this year on 19th April, he was invited to speak as a panelist at the 2021 Digital Rights and Inclusion Forum (#DRIF21) that was hosted in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania by Paradigm Initiative Nigeria (PIN) and Zaina Foundation. Other organizations he has collaborated with in the past include; DefendDefenders, Front Line Defenders, International Media Support (IMS), Media Institute of Southern Africa – Tanzania Chapter (MISA-Tan), United Nations Information Centre (UNIC), Pan-African Lawyers' Union
(PALU) and Protection International – Kenya.James believes the future is digital and it belongs to youths. And as a collective, we have to secure that future NOW by addressing common issues related to Digital Safety, Digital
Divide and Internet Freedom.
